I am confused. Why does it only have to be black single mothers? Why not ALL single mothers?

It is black single mothers because black single mothers (or just black women in general) are constantly shamed in the media. They’re deemed welfare queens & baby mamas. White single mothers don’t have the “baby mama” term stamped across their foreheads. It is rare that anything positive is ever said about black women. They are almost never represented in a good light.

Respectfully, I think that an equal number of white single mothers are portrayed that way. I grew up in an area where the “welfare queens” and “baby mamas” and negativity surrounding single mothers was directed exclusively at white women. The media is biased toward single mothers in general, I don’t think it’s really about race. And I have so much respect for ANY single mother, ethnicity aside.

I hate to break it to you, but that’s not true. Flip through the tv, walk down the street , hang out just about anywhere for a while, and trust me it’s not like that.

Take it from a Black child with a single mom who’s raising six kids. My mom gets flack all the time, and I’ve even had tons of people ask me “are you all from the same dad?” (Yes, we are.) It’s pretty late, and I’m tired, but ask me later and I’ll go into detail.
