Apparently, during the Cultural Revolution, the hotel staff covered up this ceiling design in the Dragon Phoenix restaurant on the 9th floor of the Peace Hotel. They used newspaper to hide the extravagant plasterwork because the Red Guards would have smashed it up. It was hard to get a full picture of the ceiling because it was quite low but it had Dragons, Phoenixes and bats all over the place.
